Carmel-by-the-Sea is a shoppers dream come true. It’s a haven for artists and a wonderful quaint community. There is something so special about it’s “one of a kind”, boutique shopping. It’s charming streets take you on a escape into a wonderland of unique shops, that will keep you wanting for more!
I must admit, I’ve been a “serious” Carmel shopper since I was 19 years old. That being said, I’m very familiar with just about every shop in Carmel-by-the-Sea. My absolute favorite boutique, which is like a “A Paris Inspired Shopping Adventure” is “Souvenir”. This charming shoppe has everything you are looking for under one roof, courtesy of it’s extremely creative owner “Donna Johnson” who has personally handcrafted many of the items sold in her shoppe.
Let’s start with the luscious jewelry, especially Donna’s custom made pieces! There are so many lovely original handmade necklaces and bracelets, in the most dreamy colors! If you want to take a step back in time, there is a very tempting collection of Bakelite brooches and exquisite vintage brooches as well. If your looking for clip on earrings, than you’ve arrived!
There is quite a special selection of vintage 1950’s to 60’s
clip on earrings, in every color you could want, with that added touch of sparkle too!
Souvenir has the yummy array of bath products by “Michel Design Works”, their line is so beautiful to look at and of equally decadent quality! Their candles make the perfect hostess gift!
There is a sweet section of the shoppe, that has special vintage figurines, if your a collector of small hand painted pieces, you’ll find Donna’s collection very whimsical. I love how there is something unexpected and fun around every corner of the shop! You never quite know what you might find, as your browsing around and that’s half the fun! Boutique treasure hunting, I like to call it!
The shoppe carries a fantastic line of very “Tres Chic” dresses, that I personally own six or seven of, I’ve lost count! They have a wrap look, in a fabric that never wrinkles and the look flatters every body type! All you need is one of Souvenir’s soft yummy shawls, to complete the look and your ready for a date night!
I personally love boutique shopping, because of the relationships I have, with many of the shop owners and staff, and Souvenir is no exception. “Kim Wolff” is the shining star of Souvenir. She is the shoppe manager, and she brings so much warmth and positive energy to her customers! She makes shopping at Souvenir such a delight!
Souvenir really is the epitome of “What Boutique Shopping Is All About”! It’s so special to find a shop that pays such close attention to every small detail, but then that’s so French! How fabulous to find hand made pieces of jewelry, that the owner of a shop has meticulously created herself! Everything about Souvenir gives you that intimate, warm and inviting experience, that makes you want to linger, over their beautifully displayed merchandise.

Unfortunately Souvenir hasn’t moved, the owner decided to retire after three years. This is definitely a sad loss to Carmel-by-the-Sea. Souvenir was always my first stop, when I visited Carmel. There’s nothing else like it, in Carmel, but I would would highly recommend visiting “Pacific Grove Antiques”. I’ve done several Blog postings on this Fabulous Shop, that is filled with affordable Vintage Home Decor. It has many different vendors under one roof, so the variety is amazing!
